Wellington Uses Federal Grant to Help Homeowners

Early this year Wellington joined a national program that gives state and local governments money to buy and fix up abandoned and foreclosed homes, in order to sell them to low- and moderate-income buyers.

It takes some legwork for applicants to get the house keys.

They must meet credit requirements that are determined on a case-by-case basis, said Christina Hewitt, housing manager for Neighborhood Renaissance, a nonprofit organization based in West Palm Beach that’s responsible for matching buyers to homes in Wellington.
